The Quick Online Check-Up Every Business Needs Before 2026
Here’s the truth for most local businesses: Most people decide whether to call you, visit you, or scroll right past you before they ever end up on your website.
The biggest loss of revenue for the majority of businesses isn’t bad sales processes or poor conversion. It’s the simple fact that they don’t get enough visibility.
Digital or otherwise, if you can get more people in front of your business, you have more opportunities for sales to occur. Yet we see businesses all the time not covering the basics when it comes to optimizing traffic.
Our quick visibility check-up can show you exactly how easy it is for your ideal customers to find your business in three easy steps.
How it Works
We will walk you through a series of digital check ups you can do on your own to give you an idea of where your business stands. To keep things simple, every category will be scored out of either 3 or 4 points
The maximum you can score is 10. So follow along, count your score, and let’s get your business right by 2026.
1. Search Visibility — Can High Intent Traffic Actually Find You?
The highest quality traffic will come from people actively searching for your product or service. So how we appear on Google search results is where we are starting.
Open Google and type in what you believe to be the highest intent keyword people could search for.
Examples:
- “Roofing near San Luis Obispo”
- “Wedding videographer Paso Robles”
- “Best coffee in Arroyo Grande”
Then look for where (and if) your business appears. Count 1 point for each first page listing. You can earn up to 4 points for visibility — one point for each area below.
You should only count your visibility if you appear in the first page of results (meaning if you have to click an expanded menu or another page to find your business, you would not count the points for that category.)
1 point – Google Ads
These are the paid listings at the very top of search results. Do your Google Ads appear when you search for your key term?
Google Ad Example:

1 point – Local Service Ads (Google Guaranteed)
These are the boxed listings that appear above the map results with the ability to call or message the business directly.
Local Service Ad Example:

1 point – Google Business Profile (Map Listing)
These are the map listings that show star ratings, directions, and “Call” buttons.
Google Profile Example:

1 point – Organic Search Results
These are the regular website listings further down the page.
Organic Results Example:

Once you have viewed all 4 locations, score yourself: 1 point for every place your business appears.
Max score: 4 points.
If you’re not showing up in any of these, that’s your biggest opportunity for next year.
2. Credibility — Do People Trust You Once They Find You?
Once people find you, what they see next determines whether they reach out or move on.
Open Google Maps and search your business category. For example, “plumbers near me.” Look at the five businesses with the most reviews and see where you rank.
Review Example:

Score yourself based on the following:
- 0 points: Not in the top 5 for total reviews
- 1 point: In the top 5
- 2 points: In the top 3
- 3 points: You have the most reviews in your category
👉 Max score: 3 points.
You don’t need perfect reviews, you just need a steady flow of recent ones. Customers trust freshness more than perfection.
3. Activity — Do You Look Alive Online?
When people start their research for a product or service, they want to see signs of life.
An outdated Facebook page or silent Instagram feed can make it seem like you’re closed, even if you’re busier than ever.
Pick your main social channel: Instagram, Facebook, etc, (whatever you use most).
Then go in and check your last 30 days of posts. Count the number of posts in that time frame.
Score yourself:
- 0 points: Fewer than 4 posts this month
- 1 point: 4–7 posts
- 2 points: 8–11 posts
- 3 points: 12+ posts (about three per week)
👉 Max score: 3 points.
The specific content is not as important as the fact that you show your potential customers that you are active and engaged online.
Your Total Online Health Score
Add up your points:
- Visibility: ___ / 4
- Credibility: ___ / 3
- Activity: ___ / 3
Perfect score = 10
| Score | Health Status | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| 9–10 | Healthy | You’re showing up strong. Keep it up! |
| 6–8 | Solid | You’re doing well but could tighten things up. |
| 3–5 | Needs Work | You’re missing some easy wins. |
| 0–2 | Critical | Customers probably aren’t finding or trusting you. |
